COACH CARSON

Michael Carson is the architect and builder of Georgia Prep Sports Academy football as the program's first head coach. The Buford native and former head coach at Avondale and Martin Luther King Jr., High Schools will be the first head coach for the new prep school, which will begin play in the fall of 2013.

Carson spent more than three months developing, directing and promoting the football program in preparation for Georgia Prep Sports Academy’s inaugural season. When his Lions take the field for the first time in the fall of 2013, the city of Atlanta and the football world will take notice. Carson has called his current post at Georgia Prep Sports Academy the highlight of his career.

Carson brings to Georgia Prep Sports Academy his 17 years of experience as a coach, the last 4 as the Head Coach, which saw his teams compiled a record of 27-19, in the fall of 2009 Carson lead Avondale to their first winning season in 20 years, also their first playoff appearance in 23 years. Over the past two years at MLK, Carson had a combined record of 20-5, with two 2-AAAAA Region Championships, 2 Region Coach of the Year awards 2010-2011 and DCCA Coach of the Year award 2011. In 2011, he was recognized by the Atlanta Falcons with the 5A Coach of the Year Award, which honors someone "whose services have been outstanding in the advancement of the best interests of high school football."

In addition to being selected Coach of the Year, Carson has placed numerous of student-athletes on college rosters throughout the United States over the last two years 42 of Carson players have signed athletic scholarships. Air Force-1, SEC- UGA 1, Kentucky 1, ACC- NC State, 2 VT- 1, Big Ten- TCU-1 Delaware-1 Delaware St. 1, MTSU-1, ASU-1, GSU-1,SWAC GSU-2 SIAC, Fort Valley-1 Miles College-1,CIAA JCSU-1, USA-Memphis-1 to name a few.

Through every stop, Carson has carried an indelible reputation for integrity and class, and he has been guided by the ideal that the education and well-being of the student-athlete is paramount.

Carson was inducted into the Buford Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. Carson attended Buford High School in Buford Georgia before going on to Alabama State University, where he earned his B.S. degree in Education in 1984.

He is married to the former Alicia King of Miami, a graduate of North Georgia College who earned her master's degree from Georgia State. Michael and Alicia have three children.
